Minister Counsellor of Indonesian Embassy of Japan, M. Abas Ridwan dan second secretary, Saud Ringo. Accompanied by cups of coffee and Indonesian tea, we discussed lots of issue regarding the dynamics of Indonesian living in Japan, specifically Hokkaido. We did talking and brainstorming serious matter yet in a fun way.

The Discussion (1)

Helmi, ISA-H member, delivered his ideas during the discussion.

The very first thing we talked and probably most urgent issue was the evaluation of Indonesian Honorary Consulate in Sapporo. Indonesian Students Association in Hokkaido (ISA-H) suggested to Mr. Ridwan to facilitate Indonesian citizens in Hokkaido who want to extend their passport periods or another legal-administrative documents. It was simply because it required much time and costs if everybody should go and stay in Tokyo for this matter.

Second, ISA-H told the embassy that the quantity of Indonesian student study in Hokkaido might be decreased in number in 2016 and ahead of 2017. Those who come back to Indonesia are many, but then the people who come remain a few. This needs reciprocal efforts done not only by the officials, but the alumni and the university itself to promote their education to Indonesian students.

Third, we discussed about the possibility of establishing sister-city agreement between Sapporo and one of Indonesian city. As what Mr. Ridwan said, sister city between Indonesia and Japan now includes 9 areas, for example Jogja-Kyoto, Surabaya-Kochi, Tokyo-Jakarta, Ichikawa-Medan, and Yamagata-Papua. This year

November will mark the launch of sister city agreement between Jogja and Yamanashi. Sister city between Sapporo and one of Indonesian city might bring good for both, but it needs process and willingness from both parties so it probably takes time. Forth, we discussed about the agriculture issue: how to increase export to Japan and get a possibility of technology transfer. And lastly, we talked about the spread of Indonesian Culture in Hokkaido. ISA-H will hold Indonesian Cultural Night at Higashi Kumin on August 20, 2016 and expect support from Indonesian Embassy of Jakarta and invite delegates to come and enjoy the show.
